drab to fab

Ben called me on Monday from work and said that they were going to take some teak furniture that they are no longer using at the office to the Goodwill and wanted to know if I was interested in it.

Of course!

Now it was time for the creative juices to flow and figure out how I was going to use 9 office chairs, a long conference table that expands, a futon and a coffee table.

Ummmmmm.............................

School!

That's where I was going to use it. I knew that the I wanted to have a comfy reading area, and I also wanted to have better access to my students for small groups near my new SMARTboard. So I took it ALL.

When Ben delivered them I knew I had to do something to them. They were boring, muted tones and not fun at all. I could see why no one wanted them in their office. But then I had an idea. Reupholster them.

After several trips to Hobby Lobby using the baby, and my husband as customers so we could all use a 40% off coupon (I think we went 4 days in a row), I need 9 different one yard fabrics and 6 5/8ths yard for the futon,  we ended up with beautiful fabric.

The project as with any had a few hiccups, like having TOO big of staples in the staple gun and it jamming every 5x, we finally finished the chairs, made a few pillows and spent our Saturday putting the chairs back together.

This week I have to get the couch cushions reupholster. This will be a little bit more time consuming, so I will be working on these in the evening when the Bridge man goes to sleep.

Happy Sunday!
