mommy failure on the first day of summer break

Today marks the first official day of summer break for me and Bridger. I am not officially checked out of my room (procrastination on my part last Friday- I was too busy socializing with the girls ) but will be tomorrow when I go in and do our big plan and copy for the next school year.

Today Bridger and I decided that since it wasn't very sunny out and I couldn't find my swimsuit... not sure if I left it at the hospital??? we would stay in and get the house super clean for daddy. We set off this morning strapping Bridger into the Baby Bjorn and got to work on vacuuming. Bridger loved it. By the time I was finished he was pretty darn tired. I laid him down for a nap and off I went to finish up the house. Laundry, dishes, more laundry, bills, organizing, straightening, rearranging... the list could go on and on. Meanwhile, I spent most of the day trying to stick to the 90 sleep pattern with Bridger. It seemed to work pretty well. Even though tonight he has been up for more like 120 minutes instead of 90 and then a nap.

As luck would have it I had a mommy failure (I'm sure there will be more to come) but boy did this make me feel sad. Bridger and I decided to run and get some errands done this afternoon before Ben got home. First we stopped at the eye doctor to pick up my contacts. I buckled Bridger back up and off we went. As I was getting ready to pull out into traffic Bridger started crying, so I pulled out the bottle and poured the formula from the bag into the bottle. He was in such hysterics that I reached back to give him his bottle and luck would have it I didn't put the nipple on and the entire bottle dumped on Bridger's head and body. I have never heard that boy scream so loud. Poor guy. I parked my car, put my hazards on and quickly got in the back seat and took him out of the car seat. I didn't have any blankets to dry him off since I was doing laundry, so the next best thing was to undress him completely naked (except for his diaper) and strap him back in. Poor guy was so upset and I felt horrible, the whole time driving BACK home (my to-do list NOT COMPLETE) I was crying with him. How could I have forgot to put the bottle back together. As soon as we pulled in the garage I got him out quickly started the water in the tub  and gave him the best bath ever. We sang songs smiled at each other and mommy told him how sorry she was. It wasn't much time after that that I got him dressed and rocked him. He was out! So tired after that accident. Here are a few pictures from the day.

A few things I need to document before I forget:

  • Bridger is almost 15lbs according to my scale
  • Nicknames: monkey, monk er
  • Loves to suck on my chin when he is hungry
  • Loves to roll to his tummy. But can't quite roll back over, he gets very mad once he ends up on his stomach.
  • Can wear some 6 month clothing.
  • Says A-goo all the time in the morning.
  • Has slept through the night only waking for a quick 15 minute feed at 4pm. Love to sleep till 8:30am
  • In order to ride the in the car he prefers someone in the back seat attending to his needs (usually mommy while daddy drives)
  • Still sleeps in mom and dads room in the back and play. We have shifted from sleeping in the swing all the time to the PnP.
  • Loves his hands, uses them to suck on. Still hasn't figured out where his thumb is yet, so it is the entire fist that goes into his mouth.
  • Still has beautiful blue eyes.
  • Can hold his head up and follow things
  • Loves to smile
